thrifted: A Kiss for Little Bear

while in Cebu, i was able to grab a vintage copy of Else Holmelund Minarik and Maurice Sendak's A Kiss for Little Bear and a very good copy at that! just in time for the commemorating the death of the illustrator, and what an astounding illustrator he is! i love the way Sendak puts subtle color on his pen&ink drawings.

all illustrations by Maurice Sendak, captured through photos by Bre
indeed this one shall be included in my treasure trove.

my attempt at the art of bento

trust the Japanese to make the preparation of lunch boxes an art. of course, the west has already embraced this art and here are some astounding examples.

my favorite, Where the Wild Things Are bento. photo from fantastic-dl.blogspot.com

are you ready for mine? please don't judge me!
let's get physical!

tadaaaa!
i know... mine doesn't even come close to ones at the top. but hey, i had less than 15mins to prepare my lunch (without cooking time), and the container's cute enough (got it from Robinsons Dept Store). i enjoyed it though, and i'm thinking one of these days i might do the same with my son's lunch for school. :) what do you think?

what we've been up to last Mother's Day

we were in Cebu last weekend for my son's birthday and my sis-in-law planned a surprise Mother's Day day tour resort package for us as well! here's a glance at our beach getaway at Maribago Bluewater.

Maurice Sendak dies at 83

photo from highsnobiety.com
when i was a child, i saw Where the Wild Things Are in a list of must-read books in one of our encyclopedias at home (yeah, i read encyclopedias as a past time back then) and ever since i wanted to get a copy. the illustrations just translated through me, it's as if i can relate with the wild things. i finally got a copy when i was 24 years old, as my gift for my son (i vowed to always let my son experience what i wanted to when i was a child). i even made obvious hints to my husband to get me a copy of the movie adaptation (which worked by the way) and purchased a markdown book puzzle book of the movie adaptation only a few months ago.

a few hours ago, i was dumbfounded to discover from Whorange that the very imaginative Maurice Sendak, award winning author/illustrator of Where the Wild Things Are has already died last May 8. of course everyone has their time, but knowing that someone you admire has passed away is rather heartbreaking.

for this, i will always cherish the copy of his works that i have, and probably get a copy of the Little Bear cartoons which i watched when i was younger. to Maurice Sendak, you have done great contributions to literature that no one could ever have imagined, we'll eat you up, we love you so.

bunnies

here's a sketch of one of the items in my shopfrom the parent-child series. bunnies are such adorable creatures, but I don't see myself enjoying them as pets (I find them boring). below is the fully rendered version of the sketch with some minor changes.

i wish i had a nursery to put this painting in. it would've been perfect!

a new addition to our family

nap time
everyone, gather 'round. I would like you all to meet our newest baby, Galoshes (name c/o my son). he's only 4 months old, but is already a voracious eater.

being cheeky
he huffs a lot, especially when he's going to be picked up, but when picked up he's all cuddles! i still get pricked sometimes, and i've gotten used to it already. he bites when my hand smells of food (apples when i slice some for him, or even when i'm wearing my organic lotion). and he just LOVES squeezing under nooks and crannies that i have to entice him with food to go out. my son laughs everytime he holds Galoshes, he says he gets tickled by his quills and his soft tummy. they're a riot when put together!

Finally, after a long break PopkinGarb is back. I have made changes to my Etsy shop however, it's now entitled La Mer de Reve. there are also revisions in the product line up, and I think it's best if you check it out yourselves. just a sneak peak...
